Sublime Influence

When an object (or dream or goal) holds sublime status for us, it has the power to steer our movement in the world, in less than wholesome ways. Recall that an object (or dream or goal) attains the status of the sublime when we fantasize its attainment will satiate desire. The Dollhouse

As an autistic person, I often struggle to understand the origins of my feelings, in spite of the fact that they overwhelm me. Creating content like this helps me understand myself better. It helps me to reframe the narrative of my experience, contextualizing all within the landscape of family dysfunction, and the disconnect between my experience and my parents’ perception of me.

Families, Beliefs, and Identity

An Impotent Talisman

When gripped by terror and anxious ruminations regarding the risk of my automotive travels, mom settled on what she deemed the only solution. Were my mom’s intent to actually protect her child, as opposed to simply mollify her own disquiet, perhaps, she’d have considered other options.

Whirlwind

I feel as though I am caught up within the vortex of a whirlwind these days. Last week, I labored to prepare my kids for the start of our remote learning school year, and this week, we’ve begun. Yet, just after the first morning’s classes, my youngest discovered a boil on her gum, so she had to have an emergency tooth extraction this morning. What a way to begin an already strange and uncertain year!

Using Tania’s list, in concert with online Asperger’s assessments, I can easily qualify my self-diagnosis of ASD. It is my hope that I will find a specialist to corroborate my own analysis.
